⏱ The whole game takes, at maximum, 2 minutes and 20 seconds... and I promise it can be completed! (I definitely scaled the difficulty too much, though - and it's possible you need a keyboard with n-key rollover to stand a chance! 😬)

It's hard to describe the feeling of playing a factory game to somebody who hasn't played them before. Building an intricate production line, one machine at a time, until your buildings have spread across an enormous area, all working like clockwork to produce the items you want, exactly how you want them.

...

Well, why does nobody spare a thought for how the machines feel about this?!

In Sprawl, you're playing a factory game, but not as the engineer— you play as the factory. Rather than experiencing a growing sense of satisfaction as your assembly line grows in size, efficiency, and production, your experience will grow increasingly more hectic as that awful engineer builds more and more machines that you have to individually operate and keep track of.

Only one thing is certain... the factory must grow!

More things I'd like to add

  • Accessibility/difficulty settings: I get quite a sore wrist when I play this, and it's almost certainly impossible if you can't button-mash. I'd love to add settings allowing different control methods (e.g. no mashing, no holding)
  • Difficulty scaling: Simply put, the game is too hard! I fell into the trap of scaling it to my own ability, and as a result it's now a pretty inaccessible game.
  • More levels: Levels are surprisingly hard to design and balance!
  • More buildings and items: I had planned another building that requires you to press its button three times, and I think that would have been extra chaotic if I'd completed it!
  • Sound effects: Just ran out of time for this, sadly - I think audio feedback so you know which buildings are doing what would be really important
  • Better music: As you can tell, I threw it together at the last second!
  • The engineer: I originally planned for there to be a little person walking around, and when you go up a level you see them actually build the buildings on your screen. Wouldn't that have been nice?
